Don't leave brotherhood to chance

Intentional Brotherhood

Men need good men around them.

Very few men deliberately choose isolation. It happens quietly. Life gets busy. Work expands. Seasons change. Friendships that once came easily require effort nobody schedules — and slowly, they drift.

What matters most cannot simply be left to chance. Under pressure, men fall back into patterns already formed in them — defaults they never consciously chose.

Intentional Brotherhood is the decision to stop leaving this to chance: a circle of men who help one another strengthen what they cherish and faithfully steward what has been entrusted to them.

How the pieces fit

Intentional Brotherhood is the idea. The Moments Group is where we practice it.

The Room is where we prepare for real life.

What has happened

Close friendship among men has quietly collapsed

55%

In 1990, 55% of American men reported having at least six close friends.

27%

By 2021, only 27% of American men reported having at least six close friends.

3% → 15%

Men reporting no close friends at all rose from 3% to 15%.

Being known

Most men have plenty of acquaintances. Fewer are genuinely known.

A man can be surrounded by people all week and still carry the things that matter most alone. Contacts are not the same as friendship, and being useful to someone is not the same as being known by him.

Not networking

Not built around what you can do for one another, but around who you are becoming.

Not a business roundtable

Work and finance matter here — but so do faith, family, friends and health. The whole life is on the table.

Not men dispensing advice

Advice is cheap and early. Being known takes time, honesty and men who listen first.

The quality of the man is shaped, in part, by the quality of the men around the circle. We need each other to strengthen what we cherish.

Men around the circle

The visual ecosystem

A man surrounded — so his outer life can be strengthened

Change begins in the inner person. But the inner person is not meant to be left alone. A circle of good men surrounds him, strengthens him, and helps him carry what he has been entrusted with.

Inner Person → Five Entrustments → Intentional Brotherhood → Moments → Perspective & Practice in the Room → Formation → a stronger outer life → fruit and multiplication.

The monthly rhythm

A Lighthouse in the Storm

Life has a way of pulling us off course. That's why Intentional Brotherhood isn't a one-time conversation.

Month after month, we return to the Room.

Like a lighthouse helping us regain our bearings, the circle brings us back to what matters most — Faith, Family, Friends, Work / Finance and Health.

What we do when we return

  1. Report honestly.
  2. Reflect on what happened.
  3. Celebrate progress.
  4. Make adjustments.
  5. Prepare for the Moments ahead.
  6. Then return to real life.

Direction • Progress • Accountability

The monthly rhythm helps us stay on course and make progress toward becoming faithful stewards of what God has entrusted to us.

The Moments Group

The Room: where men prepare for the Moments that matter.

A Moments Group is a small circle of men who meet regularly, learn one another's stories, put real life on the board, and prepare together for consequential Moments.

The Room is where we prepare. Life is where it counts.

Discussion creates perspective. Practice creates readiness.

Don't let the Moment that matters be your first rep.

We practice together so we can live faithfully when it counts.

The formation flywheel

Bring a real Moment into The Room

Men put life on the board: not a theory or a polished version, but a consequential Moment they are facing now.

What men practice together

Eight practices that make The Room useful

  • 01

    We learn one another's stories

Before anything useful can be said, men have to actually know who they're talking to.

  • 02

    We listen before giving advice

Most men have been given plenty of advice. Far fewer have been genuinely heard.

  • 03

    We encourage and challenge

Good men do both. Encouragement keeps us going; challenge keeps us honest.

  • 04

    We help reveal blind spots

The things hardest to see about ourselves are often plain to the men who know us.

  • 05

    We prepare for important Moments

A conversation at home. A decision at work. A relationship that needs repair.

  • 06

    We practice before pressure

Out loud, honestly, with men who will tell us the truth about how it landed.

  • 07

We pray for and support one another

Carrying each other's weight between meetings, not only in them.

  • 08

We return to real life and reflect

The Room is where we prepare. Life is where it counts — and what we learn there comes back.

The formation pathway

The meeting is not the destination. Life is.

  1. 01

    Notice

Recognize a Moment with real consequence.

  2. 02

    Understand

Slow down and see what is actually at stake.

  3. 03

    Prepare

Decide who you want to be before you're in it.

  4. 04

    Practice

Rehearse it honestly, with men who tell the truth.

  5. 05

    Act

    Enter the Moment on purpose.

  6. 06

    Reflect

Come back and look at it honestly.

  7. 07

    Repeat

    Repetition becomes formation.

Discussion creates perspective. Practice creates readiness.

Pressure exposes our defaults.

Don't let the Moment that matters be your first rep.

Fruit and multiplication

Brotherhood is not the destination. Faithful stewardship is.

A stronger inner person shows up in ordinary places: a marriage tended, a child listened to, a friendship kept, work carried with integrity, health protected for the long run.

And it rarely stops with one man. What is strengthened in the circle is carried out to the people who never sat in the Room.

  1. 1Stronger inner person
  2. 2Stronger faith, family, friends, work and finance, health
  3. 3Greater fruit for other people

“We are capable of more than we think—and sometimes it takes good people around us to help us see it.”

If you are looking for a small circle of men who will know your story, tell you the truth, encourage you, pray with you, and help you prepare for the Moments that matter, we'd be glad to tell you more about a Moments Group.
